Zermatt Switzerland

A unique mountain, a unique village, and a unique people

Zermatt is famous for two things: the Matterhorn and its car-free atmosphere. But there is far more to Zermatt than this - it is a special place that has no comparison. Make the lengthy journey to get there and you will not be disappointed.

Zermatt offers skiing for all levels and some of the best heli-skiing possibilities in Europe. Parents enjoy the convenience of the easy slopes for their children and the mountain restaurants such as Chez Vrony are well known. You can also ski over into Cervinia. Zermatt is a lovely village to stroll about in. Most of the spa and pool facilities are in hotels to which access is possible. During the day you can take one of the cable cars up into the mountains and enjoy a book or take a walk on snow shoes.

Zermatt's restaurants are good but you must ask locals to actually find the gems which are outstanding (most are in the mountain). The night clubs and bars playing live music attract a crowd of all ages and all nationalities in a very casual atmosphere. This is not a jet-set resort but you can have fun.

If you are coming on your own steam, you can take a train directly from Geneva airport to Zermatt changing at Visp. The trip by car or by train is a good 3 hours. You can also fly into the airport of Sion which is 1 hour and 20 minutes away. Once in Zermatt you are served by electric buses, taxis and by your own two legs.
